Ecommerce SEO Services

An online store has a problem a service site never has: thousands of URLs competing with each other, most of them generated by software that has never read a search result. Ecommerce SEO is mostly the work of deciding which of those pages deserve to exist — and then making the survivors worth ranking.

Why Store SEO Fails Differently

On a store, the biggest gains almost never come from writing more content — they come from removing, consolidating and controlling URLs the platform generated automatically, then investing the recovered crawl and link equity into the category pages that carry commercial demand.

A service site has thirty pages and an editorial problem. A store has thirty thousand and an architecture problem, which is why the first deliverable is a crawl, not a content calendar. Architecture and store design are the same conversation from two directions, and how the store itself is structured decides what search work is even possible.

Facets multiply silently

Colour, size, price and sort parameters combine into tens of thousands of near-identical URLs. Crawlers spend the budget there instead of on pages that sell.

Categories carry the demand

Buyers search the type before the model. Collection pages are the commercial head terms; products are the long tail underneath them.

Deleting products destroys equity

A discontinued line usually has links and rankings attached. Removed without redirects, that value evaporates in a single deploy — the same failure that makes replatforming so risky.

The Three Diagnoses We Reach Most Often

One store crawl, and it is nearly always one of these.

Thin category pages

A collection page with a heading and a product grid gives a search engine almost nothing to rank. Adding genuine buying guidance above or below the grid is the cheapest ranking gain in ecommerce.

Duplicated product copy

Manufacturer descriptions pasted across a catalogue, and shared verbatim with every competitor selling the same item. Rewriting the top sellers first is the practical route through it.

Rendering that hides the catalogue

JavaScript-injected product grids and lazy-loaded content that a crawler never sees. If the products are not in the served HTML, the page is empty as far as indexing is concerned.

What an Ecommerce Engagement Covers

Sequenced so the structural work lands before the content spend.

Architecture

  • Full catalogue crawl mapped against indexed URLs
  • Facet and parameter policy, filter by filter
  • Canonical, pagination and variant handling
  • Redirect map for discontinued and merged lines

Category strategy

  • Commercial keyword mapping to collection pages
  • Buying-guide copy written for the page, not bolted under it
  • New collection pages for demand the catalogue does not answer
  • Internal links from content into the categories that convert

Product layer

  • Product schema with price, availability and review data
  • Unique descriptions prioritized by revenue contribution
  • Image optimization and alt text across the catalogue
  • Review capture so product pages carry real ratings

Performance and reporting

  • Core Web Vitals on category and product templates
  • Server response and image delivery under catalogue load
  • Organic revenue attribution by landing page and category
  • Monthly reporting against revenue, not sessions

How the First Ninety Days Run

The order matters more here than on any other kind of site.

1

Crawl and quantify

Full crawl, log-file and index comparison, and a ranked list of where crawl budget is being wasted. You get the numbers before anyone proposes a retainer.

2

Stop the bleeding

Facet controls, canonicals and the redirect map ship first. These reclaim equity that already exists rather than trying to earn new equity from scratch.

3

Invest in the survivors

Once the architecture holds, content and links go into the category pages that carry demand — supported by the same technical work that made them crawlable in the first place.

Most stores are shocked by the ratio. We will crawl the catalogue, show what is indexed, what is duplicated, and which category pages are carrying the revenue.

Store Owners Ask These First

What is ecommerce SEO?

Ecommerce SEO is search optimization applied to an online store, where the dominant problems are structural rather than editorial: controlling which of thousands of generated URLs get indexed, making category and collection pages rank for the commercial terms buyers use, marking up products so listings show price and availability, and attributing organic revenue accurately.

Do category pages or product pages matter more?

Category and collection pages, in almost every catalogue. Shoppers search by type before they search by model, so the head and mid-tail commercial volume sits on category terms. Product pages win long-tail brand and model queries and convert well, but a store that only optimizes products competes for the smallest share of the demand.

How do you handle faceted navigation and filters?

By deciding, filter by filter, whether the combination represents a real search demand. Facets with genuine volume get an indexable, crawlable landing page with unique copy; the rest are blocked from crawling or canonicalized away. Left alone, filters generate tens of thousands of near-duplicate URLs that dilute crawl budget and split relevance.

What should I do with out-of-stock or discontinued products?

It depends on whether the item is coming back. Temporarily unavailable products keep their URL and their schema availability flag updated. Permanently discontinued items get a 301 to the closest equivalent or to the parent category — never a soft 404, and never a mass deletion, which throws away accumulated links and rankings.

Does the platform matter?

Less than most people expect for rankings. Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom builds all rank; they simply fail in different places. Shopify constrains URL structure and collection handling, WooCommerce tends to fail on performance under catalogue size, and custom stacks often ship with rendering problems that hide content from crawlers entirely. We take on stores from any of them, but we bring them over to WordPress and WooCommerce on our own server, tuned for catalogue size, with the move included in the SEO fee or rebuild project.

How is success measured on a store?

Organic revenue and organic-assisted revenue, segmented by category, not sessions. We configure the analytics so each landing page can be tied to the revenue it produced, because in a catalogue it is entirely possible for traffic to rise while the pages that actually sell go backwards.
